Vertical Reflexology
What is Vertical Reflex Therapy?
Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT) is an advanced reflexology technique founded by Lynne Booth in Bristol. Lynne discovered and researched this technique after working on chronically sick residents in a nursing home where they could not lay in a prone position as in traditional Reflexology. How Does It Work? The general premise of reflexology is that the reflexes in the hands and feet can be triggered to send a message, transmitted in some way through the nerves, to a specific organ or gland in the body which will help to trigger a healing response. A VRT treatment is given with the client in a weight bearing position, either standing or sitting. By working the reflexes in this position, the body is in a neutral state and in a position of increased vitality and becomes more sensitive and responsive to the treatment.
The Treatment
With the client either standing or sitting, the reflexes are worked through the top of the hand or foot with the palm/sole pressed down onto a surface.
VRT is a very powerful treatment and often has a quicker therapeutic response then traditional Reflexology. VRT can be given to all age groups and can help many conditions but is particularly effective in treating orthopaedic and muscular conditions. Length of Treatment
Ideally VRT should be combined with traditional reflexology but can be given as a brief 5 minute first aid treatment or as part of a comprehensive 20 minute treatment. A full consultation is carried out by the Reflexologist before the treatment, to establish what degree of VRT is suitable.
