Enzyme TherapyAt this moment, millions of enzymes are working in our bodies, causing reactions to take place. They make the chemical reactions within us possible, and without them vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats and carbohydrates would not be absorbed and utilised from our diet, and we would be unable to breathe, grow or reproduce. Enzymes can be thought of as the spark, or catalysts, of life. Enzymes are substances that can be made by the body, and some can be eaten in the food we eat, dependent on factors such as how the food is prepared and cooked. If we are in good health, and we regularly eat enzyme rich foods such as fresh, raw fruit and vegetables, and fermented products such as miso, and buttermilk, then it is more likely that our enzyme systems will be able to cope with our life choices. However, most of us do not regularly eat enzyme rich food, and the body’s own production of enzymes can be also be reduced by such factors as normal aging, digestive problems, illness, injury and stress generally. With reduced capacity for enzyme production, illness can follow. Some forms of enzyme problems are better known – an example is those who suffer from lactose intolerance because they don’t produce enough of the enzyme lactase. This can lead to digestive pain and diarrhoea , for example after drinking milk, because lactase is needed to digest the lactose that milk contains. However some enzyme deficiency problems are not so obvious. Indeed many of us may be suffering from sub-optimal health generally, or specific symptoms, because we are enzyme deficient. Enzyme Therapy can help in a wide range of conditions and symptoms by providing enzymes in therapeutic doses to assist the body in carrying out its chemical reactions – including digestion, immune function and general repair. They can be used therapeutically as digestive enzymes to improve health by assisting in the digestion of the food that we eat, placing less stress on our own enzyme systems, or can be used separately to assist the body as a whole - a system often called “systemic enzyme therapy.” Such is the importance of enzymes, that vitamins are sometimes called “co-enzymes.” Enzyme Therapy normally reviews a client’s vitamin and mineral status, digestive capability and the requirement for probiotics, and amino acids, (the structural units of protein) whose role within the body includes being the building blocks for enzymes. An important part of Enzyme Therapy is advising a client of the lifestyle choices that can damage the enzyme system within the body, or interfere with an enzyme’s activity. For example some chemicals are “enzyme inhibitors” and simple lifestyle changes can often make a significant impact on improving enzyme status. Often therapeutic assistance with enzymes for a limited time, together with a review of lifestyle factors, mean that in the longer term our need for supplements is reduced. If the body is able to manufacture sufficient enzymes, is supported by enzyme rich food and by avoiding the main enzyme depleting lifestyle factors, then we can do much to improve many health problems. Although the range of conditions that can be assisted by Enzyme Therapy is very wide, it should not be used to replace medical advice. Its value is in a supporting, complementary role for the body as a whole, by providing the raw materials to help stimulate the body’s own healing forces. From digestive problems, skin conditions, pain conditions, inflammation, sports injuries , bruises and sprains, Enzyme Therapy may assist your overall healing strategies. The Therapy Network offers enzyme support using Energetix products, a range that also includes co-enzyme support, amino acids and a wide range of other botanical, homeopathic and nutritional supplements. Having undertaken Energetix product training, within The Therapy Network the range is offered in conjunction with either MORA Bioenergetic assessment and treatment (which includes a Food Sensitivity testing service if appropriate) or an Iridology assessment , or a nutritional consultation. Because the practitioners within The Therapy Network work co-operatively, if appropriate for your health strategies, any combination of these options can be arranged.
