Carers Services

If you are reading this, the chances are that you either know firsthand of the problems associated with being a carer, or you know someone who has that role.

Whether the reason for the role is because of a loved one's physical disability, or a mental condition (such as Alzheimer's), very often the effects on the carer are the same. Carers are often left exhausted by either accessing of provision, or the general day to day caring role. Many also have their own health issues, or other family members to consider. The reality is that, from necessity, a carer often puts their own needs down the list of priorities.

Yet, given the right information, and the right support, the carer is the best long term asset to any care provision. The earlier they are given support the better, but late is better than not at all. Whether the support needed is nutritional advice, or stress management techniques, or regular massage or reflexology, our philosophy is that if a carer's needs can be dealt with before the carer is on his or her knees with exhaustion, it can make a big difference to the quality of life for both the carer and the cared for.

What do we offer?

Our procedure is for a practitioner to meet with the carer for an informal discussion. The carer can then make an informed decision about whether our service is what they are looking for, and we can also decide whether what we offer is appropriate.

Preliminary strategies are offered, and an appointment made for the carer to have a carer's assessment, where their health issues are reviewed in more detail.

Based on this, services to support the carer can be offered. This may take the form of being offered general information regarding the condition of the person being cared for, or direct services such as massage, reflexology, counselling or any other services that are available. A carer can also be taught the basics of a therapy (such as head massage, or foot massage), so that they can bring other skills to their caring role, to the benefit of the person being cared for.

If you are a carer, then a structured, holistic, multi disciplinary approach to support your own well being may be of benefit. For further information or to book an appointment please contact Sue Pash via the linked practitioner page.
